Mad Men made advertising sexy. In 2017, we need some facts and stats to back up that sexiness. Here are 11 Advertising Facts & Statistics to soak up:

1. On average, marketers spend 1/3 of their budget on social and digital marketing according to the DMA.

2. The amount of money spent on digital ads in the United States grew by 17% in 2015.

3. And as if that figure isn’t impressive enough, that amount is expected to grow to almost 40% in 2018.

4. 74% of marketers plan to increase and grow their social media advertising usage in the next 12 months.

5. Spending on social networking advertisements is expected to reach $16.5 billion in 2017.

6. 48% of marketers are measuring click-through rates for their social media advertising campaigns.

7. Facebook has maintained a strong and lasting lead for social media brand usage against other media platforms. (Take a look below.) This makes sense when taking into account how the average American logs on to Facebook 15 times day and spends about 40 minutes “browsing, watching videos and interacting with relevant and interesting content.” Bonus fact: With over a billion active users, if Facebook were a country, it would be the third most populated.

8. Across all social media platforms, organic reach (a.k.a. the amount of people who will see your content without you spending money on ad placement) is declining. On Facebook, organic reach is down to 2%, from 16% in 2012.

9. This isn’t much of a surprise, but it is important to remember as a business seeking growth: Facebook collects information and compiles algorithms on what it’s users are interested in seeing. This means that you can quite literally put your advertisements in the faces of the people who care about it, and who are most likely to interact and bring you traffic.

10. There are nearly 3 million advertisers with vastly different businesses on Facebook who are, with acceleration, recognizing the potential of Facebook advertising to put their content in the hands of their intended audience.

11. Facebook makes its money by selling advertisement space, and in 2015, it earned $3.69 in profit. To be straightforward, that $3.69 billion means that Facebook advertising works for businesses, and it works well.
